About the Library

REGENT BUSINESS SCHOOL’s Reference Library – the heart of academic learning and research The RBS libraries form an integral part of the institution and share in the quest for academic excellence. The libraries not only provide the basic needs of the users, but also provide a portal to a wealth of research materials, including online databases and journals. The libraries’ website provides essential information about library hours and services. The libraries offer students the opportunity, information resources and facilities that are essential to academic life.

Mission

To develop an efficient and sustainable library service in response to the teaching, learning and research functions of the institution through excellent resources and commendable services.

Vision

To develop a well balanced and relevant information collection; to provide access to information nationally and internationally; to enable research and e-research; and, to contribute to teaching and learning excellence.

Library External Membership

  • Arrangements have been made for REGENT BUSINESS SCHOOL students to access libraries close to their place of residence.
  • Students needing to access other libraries must apply for a letter confirming their RBS registration from the RBS librarian by telephone (+27 31 3044626) or e-mail: [email protected]
  • Students must consult with the libraries, they wish to join to establish membership rules, fees and services offered.. Please note students are required to pay their own fees and abide by the rules and regulations governing that library. When joining, please produce the letter of confirmation from RBS.
  • Students must note that this application does not guarantee acceptance by other libraries, especially during their busiest times when facilities may be reserved for their own users. It is advisable to check with the library before visiting.

Code of Conduct

Library rules are meant to protect all who use the library. A quiet atmosphere is necessary for reading, studying and conducting research. Kindly abide by the following rules:

  • Silence must be observed at all times.
  • No bags are allowed in the library. Kindly utilise lockers provided on the 1st floor.
  • Library books can only be utilised in the library.
  • Food and beverages may not be brought in the library.
  • Keep the library neat all the time. Use the bins provided.
  • Vandalising of library materials will not be tolerated.
  • Use of cell phones in the library is prohibited. Please set to silent mode.
  • The library will not accept responsibility for any loss of belongings incurred whilst in the library.
  • The librarian has the right to request a user to leave if he/she is found to be violating any of the library rules.
  • In case of an emergency, the alarm will be sounded, do not panic and please follow staff instructions and directions accordingly.

Resources

Electronic resources – Only authorized users may use the electronic databases for reference purposes. Authorized users should not allow anyone else who is not authorized, access to these resources, nor use the resources for commercial gain. Users must abide by the Copyright Act of 1978 as well as any other restrictions provided by the publishers and specified in the databases. Users may download / print limited copies of content of portions thereof provided the information is used solely in accordance with copyright law.

EbscoHost

The library subscribes to Business Source Premier which has full text coverage in all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, MIS, accounting, finance and economics. This database is updated daily on EbscoHost.

Emerald Insight

A collection of electronic resources including full text articles, case studies, reviews and abstracts, covering business and management, health services management and more.

Sabinet

Sabinet has been a leader in facilitating access to electronic information for more than 30 years. The library subscribes to SAePublications which covers business and finance.
