The National Assembly in parliament debated and adopted the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill on June 12, 2023. The Bill has once more brought into sharp focus the debate around the implementation of the National Health Insurance. This webinar promises to be thought-provoking, robust and generate critical discussion highlighting why NHI has been instituted from a historical perspective, the implications for public and private

Mr Charlton Murove, Head of Research in the Specialised Research unit of the Board of Healthcare Funders of Southern Africa (BHF). He is a qualified actuary with a strong track record in healthcare and retirement funds. He
holds a Bachelor of Commerce honours degree in actuarial science from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Zimbabwe.

Specialist Family Physician and Head of the Health
System Strengthening

Dr Rajesh Patel: Specialist Family Physician and is the Head of the Health System Strengthening at the BHF. He advises on Medical Scheme benefits, healthcare quality and affordability. Prior to that, he worked as a GP/family physician from 1988 – 1995. After leaving private practice he joined the medical aid industry. His roles in the industry covered Medical Advisor, Scheme Manager and Clinical Risk Management. Prior to joining the BHF in 2005 Rajesh spent two and a half years in the pharmaceutical industry. His special interests are quality assurance, value-based medicine, and application of public health principles in health risk management in the private sector.

Dr Nivisha Parag holds an undergraduate medical degree, a postgraduate Masters degree in Medicine, both from the University of KwaZulu Natal and an MBA from REGENT BUSINESS SCHOOL. She is a Specialist Emergency Medicine Physician having obtained her Fellowship in Emergency Medicine.
