Objectives

The programme aims to:

 

  • Develop advanced knowledge of healthcare organisations, service systems, operations, governance, and the legislative environment
  • Strengthen the use of economic, epidemiological, and financial evidence in resource allocation, planning, and sustainability decisions
  • Build competence in planning, executing, and evaluating healthcare projects while managing clinical, operational, financial, and compliance risks
  • Prepare graduates to lead people, change, performance improvement, and strategic implementation in complex healthcare settings
  • Develop informed use and governance of health information systems, digital innovation, data security, and healthcare intelligence
  • Develop the research literacy and applied enquiry skills needed to investigate healthcare management problems and communicate defensible findings

Course details

The curriculum consists of six compulsory 20-credit modules, together providing a coherent pathway from organisational understanding to evidence-informed strategic action:

 

  • Managing Healthcare Institutions: the organisational, operational, legislative, and leadership foundation
  • Health Economics: economic analysis, efficiency, financing, and the relationship between epidemiology and resource allocation
  • Healthcare Projects and Risk Management: project design, execution, performance monitoring, patient safety, and organisational resilience
  • Healthcare Financial Management: budgeting, financial analysis, capital investment, and sustainability
  • Health Information Systems: information governance, digital innovation, security, and the use of health data for management
  • Research in Healthcare Management: the integrative module, developing research literacy, critical appraisal, problem formulation, data collection and analysis, and applied research reporting

Course structure and modules

The programme comprises six compulsory modules, and all must be passed for the qualification to be awarded. There are no elective modules and no additional programme-specific prerequisites or corequisites beyond REGENT’s approved institutional admission and progression rules.

 

The curriculum follows the sequence approved for full-time or part-time registration. Research in Healthcare Management is the integrative module and should normally be completed after, or concurrently with, the other taught modules, so students can draw on their learning across institutional management, economics, projects and risk, finance, and health information systems.

Applicants must hold an appropriate Bachelor’s Degree, Advanced Diploma, or equivalent qualification at NQF Level 7 in healthcare, health sciences, public health, management, business administration, or a cognate field. Selection is subject to REGENT Business School’s approved admission requirements and demonstrated capacity for postgraduate study.

 

Applicants who don’t meet the standard entry route may be considered through Recognition of Prior Learning, Credit Accumulation and Transfer, or other approved access arrangements, in accordance with institutional policy and national requirements. International qualifications must be evaluated for equivalence by the South African Qualifications Authority, where required.
